BATTERY EQUALIZER SELECTION

Standalone active balancer or active-balance BMS?

Start with the job your battery needs. A standalone equalizer moves energy between cells. A protection BMS manages battery safety functions; some BMS models also provide active balancing. An equalizer does not replace that protection.

Do you already have a suitable protection BMS?

KEEPING AN EXISTING BMS

Review the cause of imbalance first

If the existing BMS correctly protects the pack, a separate equalizer may be worth considering for healthy cells that need additional balancing. Confirm that the two devices, sensing connections and operating settings can coexist in the actual system.

BUILDING OR REPLACING A PACK

Select protection before extra balancing

If suitable protection is absent or the BMS needs replacement, start with the pack chemistry, exact series count and charge/discharge requirements. Compare an active-balance BMS before adding another device.

Balancing is not battery repair

Repeated imbalance can come from a weak cell, loose connection, mismatched capacity or incorrect charging. Correcting those causes takes priority over fitting a larger equalizer. Neither an equalizer nor a higher current number proves a damaged battery is safe.

What a 2A balancing specification tells you

For a product such as JK-B2A16S, 2A describes its nominal active-balancing current class. It does not mean the pack is limited to a 2A load, and it does not specify the load rating of a separate protection BMS.

The actual balance current and time required depend on the voltage difference, cell capacity, control settings, wiring, temperature and hardware revision. Do not calculate a guaranteed completion time by dividing capacity by the largest current printed on the product. Compare balancing-current considerations with the condition of your real pack.

Confirm the hardware revision before choosing by cell count

Give the exact number of cells connected in series, not just “48V battery.” Nominal voltage alone does not establish chemistry or series count. A 16S enquiry also needs the chemistry, cell capacity, current voltage spread and existing BMS model.

For the batches currently sold here, the merchant confirmed on 15 October 2026 that JK-B2A16S supports 2–16S and JK-B2A8S supports 2–8S. Confirm the battery chemistry, matched harness and operating settings as well as the cell count. Historical 13–16S or 8–16S documents concern earlier versions and do not override that current-batch confirmation.

  • Battery chemistry and exact series count
  • Cell capacity and measured voltage spread
  • Existing BMS and the reason for adding balancing
  • Full model code and current hardware revision
  • Matched manual, harness and sensing-wire sequence
  • Required interface, controller and operating settings

Use this table to choose which model to investigate. Prices come from the current store catalogue; the exact product page and checkout determine the selected package and final total. No interface or series range should be inferred from a neighbouring model.

CAN, RS485 and cascade are separate questions

A communication interface, the messages carried by it, and the ability to connect several units in a cascade are different capabilities. The company catalogue distinguishes the CAN-oriented JK-DZ08B2A24S and RS485-oriented JK-DZ11B2A24S; some higher-current models list optional interfaces. That does not establish the interface or cascade capability of JK-B2A16S or JK-B2A8S.

Ask which interface is physically fitted, which protocol and controller are supported, what cable is included and whether multiple units are permitted in your design. Do not connect products just because their plugs look alike. See the CAN and RS485 guide for the difference between an interface and a protocol.

What to send before placing an order

A useful enquiry is: “My pack uses [chemistry], [exact S count] and [Ah capacity]. It already has [BMS model]. The cell voltage spread is [measured difference] under [charging/rest/load condition]. I need [local balancing or a named controller/interface]. Please confirm the correct equalizer revision, supported cell range, harness and manual.”

For installation, use only the wiring instructions matched to the supplied revision and have a qualified installer check sensing-wire order, insulation and the measurements required by that manual before connection. This selection guide is not a universal wiring diagram.
